Supervision/Consultation
Lori Myers believes effective supervision/consultation is a lively collaborative relationship that supports your professional growth. In addition to case supervision, it may include education, resource development, direction on ethical standards, and most importantly, your discovery and exploration of your own clinical style and “self of the therapist” issues. Supervision/Consultation can occur in many forms including, but not limited to, case discussion, video segments of sessions, audio tapes of sessions, live supervision where Lori is in the room as observer or participant.

Supervision and consultation are essential to the professional development of a therapist’s practice. The benefits include the passing on of clinical and professional knowledge, practice standards and ethics, and personal support; an apprenticeship or mentorship of sorts. Lori believes that we always benefit from supervisors, consultants, and teachers; learning is a lifelong process. Lori has a strong commitment to her own continuing education. She routinely engages in peer consultation and consultation with expert clinicians. Lori has a commitment to mentoring therapists and contributing to a healthy professional community. While she will have a role in evaluating your work, she requests that you will actively evaluate the supervision/consultation process. Lori encourages you to voice your thoughts and feelings, especially when there are differences of theoretical backgrounds and/or needed clarification.

Lori Myers’ therapeutic orientation has its roots in attachment and object relations theory, this view focuses on the ways in which people make meaning out of their experiences. The way that this translates into the therapeutic relationship is a relational perspective focusing on respect, appreciation and understanding of the client’s experience.
